Langley Thunder - Jr.A

About the Langley Thunder - Jr. A
The Langley Thunder Junior A Club, is committed to the development of amateur lacrosse on both the local and national levels. Its tradition dates back to 1988 ensuring that the thousands of youth in the South Fraser (Surrey to Chilliwack) region have the opportunity to play lacrosse at the highest level possible. Home games are most Wednesday nights at 7:45 PM from May 12th until the end of July. Playoffs begin in August leading to the oldest and most valuable trophy in Canada – the Mann Cup.

Acquired by Joe Willmott and Peter Kwong from the South Fraser Lacrosse Club in 2009, the franchise operational structure is set up as a Limited Partnership. The directors include, former boxing great, Dales Walters and mining consulting executive Brent Thompson.

The Thunder Junior A program is the only program of its kind in the Fraser Valley region. This area encompasses Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. There are approximately 2000 kids playing minor Lacrosse in this area. The opening of the Golden Ears bridge offers the North Fraser region easy access to Langley Thunder games.

Junior A Lacrosse is fast paced, rugged with lots of scoring (often referred to as "hockey with balls"). Playmaking is like basketball with no offside, fast transition except there are nets and goaltenders instead of hoops. Although the roster is mostly BC players, it does include players from all over North America including top NCAA US College athletes from schools like Yale, Butler, Providence and Amherst. Numerous alumni are now playing professionally.

The Langley Thunder will use the Langley Events Card in 2010, to drive ticket sales, sponsorship, advertising and apparel sales.

The Thunder have formed a marketing partnership with the Langley Events Centre. The LEC will promote the team through regular radio and print advertising. The Thunder will also be involved in the Langley Events card program. This provides all season ticket holders benefits from hundreds of local businesses. For businesses, the card can develop new customers from the thousands of fans that attend the LEC. The card provides and exception value proposition for both fans and businesses. Team performance will be greatly enhanced as the Club has assembled an experienced operational management team. Over the last several years, the Thunder have been "stock piling" draft picks (three in the first round in 2010). The Langley Thunder has a number of excellent prospects and are posed to make a rapid assent in the standings in the 2010 season.
